First public release! China's space station "work summary" to the results at a glance
Dec 30, 2024The Report thoroughly implements the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and the Second and Third Plenary Sessions of the 20th Central Committee. Focusing on promoting the vigorous development of space science, space technology, and space application fields in an all-round way, it mainly centers on areas such as space life and human research, microgravity physical science research, and space new technology and application. From the scientific and application projects that have already downlinked samples, obtained research data, completed in-orbit experiments, and achieved outstanding progress, it has carefully selected 34 representative scientific research and application achievements, as well as multi-dimensional and multi-form popular science and cultural activities for introduction. It centrally responds to the concerns and expectations of all sectors of society regarding the construction and development of China's space station, comprehensively showcases China's capabilities and innovative spirit in the field of space science and technology, and also summarizes beneficial experiences for subsequent breakthroughs in scientific mechanism cognition, acceleration of technology transfer, and achieving broad application benefits in space science research.
It is reported that to ensure the quality of the Report, the China Manned Space Engineering Office organized hundreds of experts and scholars from various fields to conduct multiple rounds of discussions and evaluations. The released results involve 53 institutions, including 28 research institutes, 21 universities, 2 national laboratories and 2 high-tech enterprises, and 63 research teams participated in the completion of the work. The Report embodies the wisdom and hard work of a large number of experts and scholars in various fields of science and application of China's space station.
The completion of the space station marks China's successful construction of a large-scale manned space station system with distinct contemporary and Chinese characteristics, and the successful accomplishment of the three-step strategic goal of the manned space program, entering a new stage of space station application and development. Over the past two years, China has organized and completed four manned flights, three cargo resupply missions, and four spacecraft return missions. Five astronaut crews and 15 astronauts have conducted long-term stays in orbit. A total of 10 spacewalks and multiple extravehicular operations of application payloads have been carried out, along with multiple extravehicular maintenance tasks. The world record for the duration of a single spacewalk by an astronaut has been broken. The selection of the fourth batch of reserve astronauts, including two experts from Hong Kong and Macao, and the selection and initiation of the development of a low-cost cargo transportation system have also been completed. Currently, the Chinese space station is operating stably in orbit and is performing well.
It is understood that the first batch of space science, application experiments and technology tests carried out on China's space station have been progressing smoothly and achieved fruitful results, demonstrating a certain degree of cutting-edge and innovation. Currently, China has planned four major research fields, including space life and human research, microgravity physical science, space astronomy and earth science, and space new technology and application, with 32 research themes. As of December 1, 2024, a total of 181 scientific and application projects have been implemented in orbit, nearly 2 tons of scientific materials have been sent up, nearly 100 types of experimental samples have been sent down, and more than 300TB of scientific data have been obtained.
It has achieved a number of pioneering results, including the world's first acquisition of new germplasm resources of rice and regenerative rice developed in space, the world's first differentiation of human embryonic stem cells into hematopoietic stem/progenitor cells in space, the world's first realization of a cold atom interferometer gyroscope under microgravity conditions in space, the world's first establishment of a high-throughput on-orbit microbial control test platform, and the world's longest on-orbit operation of a space water ecosystem.
Scientific teams in various fields have conducted in-depth exploration with a focus on the country's large-scale needs, and have achieved a series of original, cutting-edge and innovative results. They have published more than 500 high-level SCI papers and obtained 150 patents. Some of the results have been transferred, transformed and promoted, which has significantly promoted the rapid development of my country's space science and applications.
Space exploration is endless. The China Space Station National Space Laboratory will continue to carry out more than a thousand research projects in the next 10-15 years of operation, actively carry out scientific communication and international cooperation, and widely gather high-level scientific teams to promote the comprehensive development of my country's space science, space technology, and space applications, and make greater contributions to promoting the construction of a strong country in science and technology and a strong aerospace country.
